Mood and difficult thoughts

The support line for your country, when to get help, and what's known about mood on these medicines.

Rough days happen, and you don't have to handle them alone. If things feel heavy, there are people ready to listen.

When to get care

  • Now

If you have thoughts of ending your life or hurting yourself, call emergency services or a support line now.

You don't have to wait for it to pass, and you don't have to face it alone.

  • Soon

If your mood keeps getting worse, or changes in a way that doesn't feel like you, talk to your doctor in the next few days.

Low mood has many causes. It isn't weakness, and it's worth a conversation.

What's known

In a large study of online posts from people on these medicines, about 1 in 8 of those who described side effects mentioned anxiety, poor sleep or low mood. If it's happening to you, you're not the only one.

Labels differ by country here. In the US, the FDA asked in 2026 for the suicidal thoughts warning to be removed after large reviews found no increased risk. The European labels never carried it. The Brazilian label of tirzepatide still does. Whatever your label says, a change in mood deserves attention.

Comparing hurts. On the same medicine, men lose less weight on average than women, and the results most often shared come from trials with mostly women. A slower result is physiology, not failure.

What usually helps

  • Telling your doctor how you've been feelingMood changes are worth bringing up, whatever your label says.
